Planty Park, Bialystok – Sept 14, 2011

One of the things I’m surprised to be missing about Europe is walking. I love how accessible every place is (also thanks to the public transport system) and I really miss not paying for gas. Hahaha but seriously, walking had major perks like burning calories, breathing in fresh air and being able to see more things. šŸ™‚ Let me elaborate….

One beautiful, fairly warm afternoon on our second week in Bialystok, we decided to walk around and get to know the city some more
we ran into a group of cows urging us to eat kurczak instead
we also passed by this dog statue featured in the city guidebook given to us by our organizers

pigeons, pigeons, pigeons outside one of the hospitals. Our organizers then told us that all the hospitals in Bialystok were just beside each other and that if you get into an accident in the opposite end of the city and there’s a traffic jam, you’re pretty much screwed

where to? just kidding, malayo kasi haha

the beginning of autumn!!!!

We also passed by this monument for the victims of the Katyn massacre where I was treated to a mini history lecture. Random fact, I really wanted to major in History in college. Anyway! Upon learning about the Soviet massacre of Polish officials, I realized how limited my knowledge of history was. I mean, our educational system is so Western based that I was shocked when they were telling me the gravity of the Soviet regime (I’m sorry if this statement seems ignorant!!! I’m learning, I promise). I’m really blessed to have had an opportunity to learn about the culture and history of other countries – it really widens your perspective :p
next stop: the Bialystok Zoo! everyone says the zoo is really shitty, I’ll let you see for yourself:

a bear

a peacock
deer dear
some colorful birds
Hedwig’s long lost distant relative
awwwwwww, donkey is so flufffffyyyy ā¤
the zubr. (also a kind of beer, hahaha)

waiting for the llama to spit, haha just kidding

KOCHAM ZOO!!!! hahaha! I really don’t know why they say it’s shitty, I mean come on, it’s NOT THAT BAD AT ALL!! Yeah, it’s small but so what. The animals look much happier and healthier than the ones in Manila Zoo.

Lesson learned: Sometimes you have to experience and see things for yourself coz no matter how daunting it might first seem (ie: walking and visiting a “shitty” zoo, hahaha) you might actually like it. šŸ˜‰
