I only started watching Master Chef seriously this year. Back in Manila, I’d watch random episodes on cable but I never really had the time to follow it. This 2014, I’m happy to report that I’m up to date with the latest. I’m on Season 5 and I’m (currently) rooting for Willy. Watching the series made me confirm one thing – I LOVE THE ITALIANS! From Luca to Giuseppi, to Krissi (until she annoyed me later on the season), to the yummy agnelloti and risotto and raviolo, and of course to Joe Bastianich.

You can just imagine my delight when I found out that Mozza is actually a venture between Nancy Silverton, Mario Batali, and Joe Bastianich. Waitttt, whutttttt!? I just had to re-experience Mozza!

The pizzeria was packed when we arrived for late Sunday lunch. The only seats available were counter seats. Normally, I find this part of the restaurant stuffy but I actually enjoyed my seat at Mozza. It was like being in the front row of a very technical yet artistic performance. It’s pretty hypnotizing the way their assembly line works.

Meatballs al forno. This dish had three elements and they were all perfectly harmonious – the sesame encrusted garlic bread (who knew you can elevate garlic bread?!), the rich marinara sauce (pure tomato goodness), and the meatballs itself (packed and moist).

Prosciutto di Parma, rucola, tomato & mozzarella pizza. The classic pizza. I’m sorry I’m biased; I have a love affair with parma ham (and jamon serrano. and anchovies. and salami milano. among other things).

It doesn’t look like much but we actually left Mozza with very stuffed bellies. Among all the celebrity chefs’ restaurants in Singapore, Pizzeria Mozza is the most affordable. It’s not the best pizza I’ve had in my whole entire life, but I think it’s something you should try at least once. The crust is really in a class of its own. 🙂
Anyway, has anyone tried the Osteria? The pasta menu is so mouthwatering and I’d love to hear your experience there so I can gauge whether to give it a go or a pass. Let me know below!
