It was supposed to be only a quick stroll along Washington Square Park. After all, Tita Livy had already shown us the park 7 years prior and I just wanted to take a quick snap. We were on our way to catch the subway back after spending the afternoon exploring the West when we heard it. A live jazz band. We said we’d stick around for a “little bit” but we ended up spending at least half an hour sitting on the bench and listening to them play. They’re called Rasheed and the Jazz Collective and they were great! I personally love wind instruments, and they didn’t disappoint in this front. There were trumpets and sax and a whole lotta wow. Together with the bass, keyboard and percussions, they filled the park with some good ol’ solid music. As I sat there, back against the wooden bench, the cool air kissing my face, I briefly closed my eyes to take it all in. For once in a long while, my quarter life worries were not at bay. What I’m doing with my life and what my next step would be seemed so trivial. I was fully in the present and I knew that’s where I wanted to be. That it’s where I want to be.

Here’s a video of them playing to jazz up your weekend. I might go for some french jazz tonight, let’s see how that works out!

  1. It's all so beautiful! I wish we had public places of enjoyment. Over here, any little plot of land seems to be taken over by some private enterprise.
