TAKES MY BODY HIGHER

{Temt top, H&M pants, Zara bag, CLN sandals}

Oh my God, what happened to July!? It REALLY whizzed on by! Who would’ve thought that we’d see Hiddleswift and Kim’s exposé!? Hahahaha Just kidding. That’s not the path I’d want to go into for this (long overdue) blog post. But if you wanna discuss it, feel free to message me, lol. But I’d probably enjoy it more if we talk about President Duterte’s SONA. Starting off with how awesome Gina Lopez is for DENR, how inspired I am by our president, and how there were still people who ignored the freakin’ dress code.

Anyway!

July has been one crazy month. For starters, I’ve spent the past 3 weekends out of town – Boracay, Bataan, and Cebu. Two Mondays of which were spent sick in bed, with the last one extending until the Thursday I had to fly out. Guys, seriously, Conzace – best for recovery! And Fern-C if it’s just starting out. Haha! I’ve also started working! I know I said I would pursue a different industry, but guess what, I’m back in logistics. At the same company at that. I mean, yeah, now it’s Manila. So it’s an all new learning curve for me, but hey, we’ll see how it goes. Like I said, it’s the side of the industry that I enjoy so I’m very optimistic. Although it entails a long ass commute. One of which was when I spent a Friday afternoon stressing about the coding window closing, only to be talked sense into by Mang Loloy that  yaaaa-huh, I’m not gonna die if the window closes in on me. I’m just gonna need to pay the fine and collect my license from City Hall, if ever, but other than that? I wasn’t gonna die or anything serious. Yeah, it’s a hassle but, what to do?! Traffic, eh. And it’s not like I can ditch work altogether. It was a good realization that sometimes shit happens. As much as you try to avoid it, sometimes it’s bound to happen. You just roll with the punches because sometimes what you’re worried about doesn’t have any concrete basis.. and that your worries are far scarier than the actual reality.

The above photos were snapped by my fashion mentor (and mother in general!), Luis, when we were in Cebu for Ayala’s Style Origin. Can you believe that it has been ongoing for 5 years now AND that we were part of the FIRST one?! It was great to do fashion again after 4 years away. The high after a show?! PRICELESS. It was also a reminder that I shouldn’t stop pursuing things that make me happy.  That I should find ways to make time and balance everything that feeds my soul. And making sure that I’m not neglecting my health and body, as my parents have been constantly lecturing me this month. It’s not fun being sick!!! (But it is fun to spend time with friends and family! In my defense, I’ve been away from Manila for 4 YEARS and I am dying to catch up with everyone, even if it means foregoing rest. It’s like runner’s high, you don’t feel tired until after, haha! I WILL DO BETTER BALANCING THIS FRONT, PROMISE!!!)

What about you!? This catch up shouldn’t be one-sided! Let me know what you’ve been up to or simply link me your latest blog post below. I’d love to hear about how your month is going! Or maybe let’s exchange Snapchat ids? Mine is heyrocketgirl. I’m flying to Singapore tomorrow so that should mean more interesting snaps.

And just when you thought that this post couldn’t be any more longer, here’s my current LSS and the namesake of this blog post.

FLOAT ON

A friendly Monday morning reminder from Modest Mouse:

Don’t worry

even if things end up a bit too heavy,

we’ll all float on alright♬

Finally got to “swim” last Saturday. Swim is in quotation because pool day for me equates to poolside conversations, music, and beer, haha! Water-optional activities aside, pool day wouldn’t be complete without actually dipping in and floating around, starring at the blue skies, and being alone with your thoughts. Thoughts are louder underwater, noh?  I make it sound like I had a profound realization or something, haha! I mean, I wish I did, but sometimes, it’s good enough just to reflect.
Anyway, hope you had a fantastic weekend and that you’re starting the week on a positive beat. If you need help, here’s the link to Float On. And there’s always this song, too. Hehe!

WISHFUL DRINKIN’

Friday, Friday, FRIDAAAAY! Since it’s the beginning of the weekend, I thought I’d share with you 3 drinking spots worth checking out in Singapore. Because, Friday!  But first, to get you in the mood, and because I’m listening to it right now, this song –

I just wanna dance, I feel gooooooood ♬

AY, WAIT.

The below aren’t dancing places. HAHAHA! But it is, for me, wishful drinking coz of the distance between me and the little red dot. So, yeaaa, good save for putting this video here. And my title suddenly made sense, noh?! Hehe! Anyway, before I babble some more, check out three watering holes I visited before saying “adios!” to Singapore. Grab a drink for me, ya?

1. Bird Bird

Another baby of Bjorn Shen, aka the man behind Artichoke and one of my favorite chefs in the world, Bird Bird is, according to Facebook, an amateur sports team a Thai chicken eatery. It’s nestled in a shophouse along Ann Siang, so if you want food to go with your Friday night drinks, this is the spot. I didn’t particularly enjoy my punch because I’m not a fan of passion fruit (then why’d you order, Reg?!?) but Luke liked it and I looooved his spiked Thai milk tea cocktail. YUM! They also offer beer if cocktails aren’t your thing, but I urge you to try the milk tea drink. 🙂 I was commenting that Bird Bird is a nice place for first dates coz the atmosphere is chill, but then if you’re gonna eat the wings, your poise will plummet so maybe save it for the 5th date? HAHA! Buuuut I loooove the crispy noodle dish with century egg. It was ingenious! Real refreshing too!

“Bird Bird Satisfry You Long Time”
the yummy crunchy noodle salad thing I mentioned earlier, YUM!!!
chai yo!!!

first date topics: that crazy ass chandelier
thai chicken wings (dip it in that sauce!!!) and umami corn
Bird Bird is located at 18 Ann Siang Rd, Singapore 069698

2. Little Island Brewing Company

This was such a surprise to me! Who would’ve thought there’s a craft brewery in Changi Village!?!? Good thing my Tita Mato mentioned it when we met up for one last catch up before I flew back. I wish we did this more when I was living in Singapore! So anyway, Little Island Brewing Company. The name’s quite a mouthful, but hey, foreshadowing of the many big gulps you’ll be having? Hehe! They brew their own beer every morning and it’s on automated tap. HOW COOL IS THAT?! There’s a card which you load value in and then you just tap it and then you pour your own beer. I went straight for Ruby Tuesday, which I was told was one of the strongest, just because the name incorporates two of my favorites – color (Red) and day of the week. Yes, I know, I’m shallow like that, but the beer was really good! I took a taste of all brews (don’t judge!) and I really liked this one. 🙂

kegs and kegs and the huuuuge ass space (although you don’t really see it in the picture, hahahaha!).

Little Island Brewing Co. is located at 6 Changi Village Rd, Singapore 509907

3. Bar Stories

My faaavorite bar in Singapore for cocktails. So much so that I had to get one last drink before I left. They serve bespoke drinks, much like Ah Sam, but I prefer Bar Stories, maybe because I used to live in Beach Road and it was super close by? Hehe! It has a very cozy vibe, chill music (even fell in love with this song here!), and the drinks are REALLY yummy as it is creative and pretty. Their cocktails always leave me impressed.  And oh! If you can, try the pizza!

chill is the way to go 😉

Poojie’s tom yum inspired drink, Luke’s sour drink with salt and yuzu and other yum things, and my fruity berry drink with lychee pellets, ugghhhh!
Bar Stories is located at 55-57A Haji Lane, Singapore 189248
Enjoy your Friday night! Any plans for tonight?? I’m probably just gonna stay in, HAHA! 🙂

JUST BEGUN UNDER A PURPLE SUN

There’s many reasons we are what we’ve become
I’m going through changes, rippin’ out pages
I’m going through changes now
I knew it once, but I forgot
I’m going through changes now
– Changes by Langhorne Slim & The Law
I feel like this song would be good background music to how my days have been lately. You know how it is in TV series? The ending montage in each episode? I think this song would be apt for my season-ender. ♥︎

Give it a listen and let me know what you think!

THIS IS LIFE IN COLOR

It’s FRIDAY!!! Really looking forward to the weekend and having all the time to sit down with myself. I’ve got major life planning to do and as much as the setbacks are aplenty, there are far greater prospects ahead. I am super excited and looking forward to the next chapter! It can be win-win as long as I know where to focus. It’s not gonna be easy, but as what today’s Momentum Dash reminded me – “Decide that you want it more than you are afraid of it.”

Well, this is life in color
Today feels like no other
And the darkest grays
The sun bursts, clouds break
This is life in motion

Here’s to living colorful lives, whatever color palette your closet is.

10 SONGS FOR FEB 14

A year ago, I posted my most heart-wrenching playlist just around Valentine’s Day. After spending the weekend with my high school girlfriends, most parts of which we were singing popular songs from back then, I was inspired to continue with the sad playlist tradition. This time containing OPM songs for added hugot and because you’d be surprised as to which songs you actually know all the words to. 🙂

My boyfriend asked me just now what I was doing and when I told him, he asked me if I was sad. He’s the cutest, hehe! I’m actually happy, even if I’m gross and itchy from allergies, and I really loooove Valentine’s Day; it’s just that I like singing and screaming along to songs too (see Exhibit A). So if you’re like me, or if you’re actually going through something, here are 10 OPM songs for Feb 14 – handpicked and guaranteed to strike a chord with any Filipino twenty-something. 😉

Pare ko, meron akong problema. Wag mong sabihing na naman. In-love ako sa isang kolehiyala, hindi ko maintindihan.

2. Suntok sa Buwan by Session Road
Damdamin ko’y pinagtakpan, makasama ka’y suntok sa buwan.

3. Torete by Moonstar 88

We just have to say our love was true but has now become a lie. So I’m tellin’ you I love you one last time and goodbye.

Subalit ngayo’y wala na, ikaw ay lumayo na. Naaalala ko ang mga gabing nakahiga sa ilalim ng kalawakan, naaalala ko ang mga gabing magkatabi sa ulan.

7. Kisapmata by Rivermaya

10. Before I Let You Go by Freestyle
I know someday, somehow, I’ll find a way to leave it all behind me. I guess it wasn’t meant to be but baby, before I let you go I want to say I love you.

Soo.. are you still alive? Hehe! Hope you enjoyed, I certainly did. 🙂 Listen to it on Spotify if you want to tortureentertain yourself some more. And don’t forget to let me know your favorite OPM songs, sad or otherwise, below!

WELL, I CAME HOME

Well, I came home
Like a stone
And I fell heavy into your arms
These days of dust
Which we’ve known
Will blow away with this new sun

Soookay, I’m currently in a bunk bed in a dorm with 15 other people here in Tagaytay. We’ve just witnessed our two dearest and closest friends get married last night and it was sooo heartwarming as it was fun. Who would’ve thought that 13 years after randomly grouping up in PE class, we’d find ourselves here, reminiscing and making new memories and actually coming from all over the world to physically reunite!? I am really thankful for the sisterhood and I am glad for the new friendships with the guys who take care of my girls. True to Reg form, I’ll be blogging about this in detail next time. But for now, a reminder to go for greatness and do our highschool selves proud using, again, the words of a band I am seeing this June. #LawOfAttraction

Now I’ll be bold
As well as strong
And use my head alongside my heart
So tame my flesh
And fix my eyes
A tethered mind freed from the lies

JANUARY WRAP UP

And just like that, we’re ending January. For obvious reasons, I looove January. This year was extra special because after 3 looong years, I finally get to “celebrate” my birthday-month with folks back home. Nevermind that I had work and I got stuck in traffic more hours than I’d want, being able to meet and catch up with my favorite people is always something I look forward to. This year was also the first time in forever that I got to spend my actual birthday with my dad. Yes, it was, again, for work, but that was pretty cool too! I collaged up all “my dates” this January below both as a tribute and a happy thought for shitty days. 😉

1) dinner and a bottle of wine with my style sister, and just plain ol’ ate (older sister), Donna, 2) old and new friends gathered in one place – yep, same as those people here, 3) my favorite psych girls! we were chatting up a storm and laughing so loud like we’re just in the cafeteria, hehehe, 4) with my super favorite boy in the whole world!, 5) my mama! who cooked garlic butter prawns and aligue rice before I went to the airport, yummeehh!!, 6) with my cousin, Nadine, who has been my constant companion to SM Cubao and Gateway, hehe!, 7) with Arnold and Miko, who I’ve been celebrating my birthday with for so many years now, 8) with my Roxas and Franco cousins who’ always a blast to be with, 9) with my dad who got

Anyway, so far, so good! But damn, I’m already starting to feel 2016 go by. There’s still so much things I want to do (like clear my backlog, omg, how?!?!) and time just seems to speed up and throw more, I’d love to say awesome, things ahead. Can’t really complain coz everyone’s going through the same ordeal. Yes? Yes!

Ending this post with my favorite video from this week. Sorry, Zayn. It’s still One Direction for me.♥︎

Isn’t Niall so cute in this video!??!
And isn’t the lyrics so fitting for this blog entry too? ♬ You and me got a whole lot of history, so don’t let it go, we can make some more, we can live forever ♬

Hehe, have a great February ahead! 😀
