I recently got an email from Jackie Clark who does outreach for the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance, a leading web resource for mesothelioma cancer, about a possible guest post to raise awareness on mesothelioma cancer. Her article is about how fashion can empower cancer patients, and if this is all a shock to you, then you haven’t met Sex and the City’s Samantha Jones – cancer survivor and fashion vixen. I thought I’d share this online coz I’ve always believed fashion to be a moodbooster. 😉

High Fashion Powers Cancer Patients
By: Jackie Clark (http://www.mesothelioma.com/blog/)

Feeling fabulous in your own skin is hard for women who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma and breast cancer. To shake the doldrums, and boost your self confidence as you go through treatment, nothing is better than a high voltage dose of high fashion.

When you are faced with the devastating news that you have cancer, no matter what the prognosis, you will experience a flood of emotions. You will work with a team of doctors and other professionals to focus on the medical issues surrounding your diagnosis, but there are amazing benefits to boosting your esteem through simple beauty and fashion tips and tricks.

You may wonder how fashion or a trip to your favorite store or online boutique relates to your cancer diagnosis. Studies show that women who have a higher confidence level and higher self-esteem do better during cancer treatment than women who do not have high levels of self-confidence. Remember, in many cases treatments for mesothelioma are protracted over many months. It takes a great attitude to go into these treatments. Feeling good about yourself and comfortable in your own skin will help you through the treatment process.

How can you feel beautiful when you have just received devastating news? This may be the big question on your mind. First and foremost, celebrate your beauty. Set a goal: to feel beautiful in your own skin no matter what.
Now that you have a goal it is time to boost your self confidence with some retail therapy. You can get a very powerful attitude, the attitude you need to fight the battle ahead, with the right fashions: Shoes – Do you live in flip flops or tennis shoes? Put them aside and purchase some of the latest wedges or a great pair of power heels. Skirts and Dresses – Skirts and dresses can be worn every day. They make you feel beautiful and feminine.

Color – color can be used to instantly brighten your mood. Pack away all of your somber sweaters and dull t-shirts. It is time to invest in brilliant yellows, sea foam greens, and hot pinks for your fight against cancer. For decades people have spent hours agonizing over nursery colors to stimulate a child’s mind or hospital colors to comfort patients. Why not use this same color therapy to boost your mood and give you more power during tough times?
You can feel beautiful in your own skin. This self-confidence will allow your inner beauty to shine outward. High fashion is an instant beauty transformer when you have been diagnosed with breast cancer or other forms of mesothelioma.
