I guess you could say I live for the weekends since most of my recent entries have been pretty much weekend-centric. That’s what you get when you get a regular desk job, no disrespect meant for my former freelance self.. and certainly no disrespect meant for my current office-employed self. Having had a taste of both worlds, I can confidently say that each employment status has its own equal set of perks and trade offs. I can’t tell you which one is better because at the end of the day, it depends on the priorities you’ve set for yourself and whether they’re being met or not. The past four years after graduating from university, my priorities have evolved from not getting a boring corporate job, to building my fashion portfolio, to funding my travels, to longterm planning and forecasting. There’s really no objective “better” option when it comes to jobs, as long as you, the labourer (have to make it sound really rough and dirty to emphasise that you will spend a good portion toiling), get what you want out of it. Be it experience, stability, dollar dollar bills yo, travel, independence, artistic expression; as long as your job provides you that, you’ll be a happy working bee. Sometimes, we get really lucky and we get all. Other times, we weigh our priorities and sacrifice the least. But being the modern day gladiators – aka:  fun, fearless, Cosmo girls – we are, sacrificing a priority is the last resort. By hook or by crook, we still try to have it all.

Don’t believe me? There’s this cab driver who coaches badminton while training for his competitions and drives his wife to work and have lunch with her everyday. My personal bible, Steal Like An Artist, mentions that you shouldn’t let your circumstance stop you from pursuing your passions. You make time and you use available resources to your advantage.

Since weekend’s coming up again, let this blog entry be a nudge to keep things productive. For me, I do so by capitalizing on experience and babbling about it here. 😉

xx
