When was the last time you’ve been inside a museum? Mine was a little over a year ago when I was still a student in Luis Espiritu‘s styling class. I remember thinking to myself back then that I’d make it a point to visit museums regularly but that didn’t really happen. Last Monday though, I was finally able to follow through.

I went to visit the Yuchengco Museum over at the RCBC Plaza in Makati. Entrance to the museum is P100.

Currently on Exhibit: Rizalizing the Future, in honor of Jose Rizal’s 150th birthday

RIZALizing: a continuos process of imbibing, becoming, and carrying out the spirit of Rizal

and why shouldn’t we want not to Rizalize!? Jose Rizal was all these *points to photo above* and so much more

okay, geek fact: I’ve always been a fan of our national hero Jose Rizal. One of the highlights of my college life is taking History165 – Rizal and the Emergence of the Filipino People – under multi-awarded Filipino historian and chair of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, Ambeth Ocampo. Sir Ambeth “humanized” Rizal in our class making me and even bigger fangirl. He showed us wacky photos of Rizal and his ilustrado friends and the best one was Rizal’s farting guy doodle. If you, my dear reader, are an Atenean, please do yourself a favor and take Ambeth Ocampo’s class. If not, I believe he also has lectures from time to time, do catch it.

this statement echoes my essay in a long test under Sir Ambeth. I got the highest in my class 50/40. 😉

one of the points Sir Ambeth made back in class, I swear, you have to catch one of his lectures! See, it’s been three years since his class and I still remember it!

a lot more interesting facts are written in the placards, I seriously got kilig just going through it

I participated in the exhibit too! I couldn’t help it, I love Rizal. Can you spot my sticky note? 🙂

memorabilia were also on display. these chess piece parts were made by Rizal during his exile. wala pa kasi facebook dati, haha joke

Meet Leonor Rivera. She was the love of Rizal’s life but her parents, upon Rizal being too vocal about Spanish rule, kept them apart and got her to marry an american rail road man. Before the wedding, her mom handed her the letters from Rizal that they kept from her and told her it’s a sin to keep love letters from someone other than her husband. She burned those unread letters and kept the ashes in the box to the right. </3

from something heavy to something light, I was amused by the story behind this tampipi. How cool, right?!

I doubt there’s any Filipino more influential than him. Rizalizing the Future showcased the different aspects of Rizal and if you have the time, I hope you go visit it. It’s until October 29, 2011.

other than the exhibit, I also took time to view the other parts of the museum as it’s my first time there. I love its airy modern interiors.
