<\/a><\/div>\n\nLast March 22, I joined my favourite sibling trio for HOLI<\/b>. Holi is a Hindu spring festival where people celebrate with music and dancing and by throwing colours at people. Pooja told me “Holi” is short for “Holika”, the sister of the evil king who ended up dying when her plan backfired <\/i>(pun intended). The evil king had a son who was against his wicked ways so his sister (the prince’s aunt) planned on burning the boy. Vishnu intervened and saved the boy and killed Holika and the evil king. Then *poof<\/i>*, holi. It’s where people celebrate good’s triumph over evil.<\/p>\n
Upon further research, I found out that the bonfire the night before is the part that best symbolises the above story. Moreover, there’s another one about how holi commemorates how Krishna and Radha became a couple. Krishna had blue skin and like any adolescent boy, he was insecure about whether girls will like him or not. His mom, sick of him complaining, told him to just go colour Radha’s face, so he did and they ended up in love (or something like that). And that’s where the color part of holi comes from. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
We celebrated Holi at the Kembangan Field where I had a blast throwing colors at people. Guys, it’s not just random throwing, you know! There’s an actual skill to it so that the powder will scatter properly and I have yet to master that technique. Perhaps next year? \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
