Last November 16, I got the chance to learn about how TOMS Philippines is making a difference in every Filipino children’s lives through its One for One Movement. In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in a village in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS Shoes, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One. To date, TOMS has given over one million pairs of new shoes to children through giving partners around the world in 24 countries including the Philippines. As I was watching the video, I couldn’t help but feel inspired. I’ve gushed here about my love affair for shoes and just imagine being able to help someone else with every purchase. π
I found out that TOMS actually puts in a lot of thought in their One for One Movement. They don’t just mass produce shoes to be given out, they actually take time to study the terrain first and make sure that the shoes would be perfect for the recipient. They also don’t just pick a random place and drop shoes off, they actually study it and work with local NGO’s there and they take the sizes of the kids before having it made so nothing goes to waste. Impressive, right?! And!!! You’d think they just give kids one pair but no, they actually take into consideration the fact that kids’ feet grow fast so they come back and give them a bigger pair! Grabe, I was so inspired with the video that I actually wanted to find Blake Mycoskie and personally tell him how amazing he and his brand is. π
We also got to see a preview of the Spring 2012 collection which I’ll be sure to get my hands on once its out. I’ll tell more about it through the photos below π
Cheers to TOMS! π TOMS is available in SWIM and NOTHING BUT H2O. π
